Solar Panel cleaning at Hinds School – A clean start for better energy
Yesterday, our Eco Solar Clean team was on-site at Hinds School, located just south of Ashburton, for a much-needed solar panel clean. The school had 50 solar panels installed back in 2020, and like many panels exposed to the elements for several years, they had accumulated a significant layer of dust and were showing visible lichen growth on each panel.

Why Cleaning Solar Panels Matters
Lichen and dirt aren’t just unsightly, they dramatically reduce solar panel efficiency. When panels are covered in debris or biological growth like lichen, the sunlight can’t penetrate the surface properly, which directly impacts power generation. Regular cleaning not only improves efficiency but also extends the life of the panels.
What We Did
Using our eco-friendly solar panel cleaning methods, we safely and effectively removed all the lichen and built-up grime. Our process is designed to be gentle on the panels while being tough on contaminants. We worked methodically across the entire array to ensure no panel was left untreated.

By the end of the job, the panels were looking like new again—clear, clean, and ready to operate at full capacity.

A Smart Investment for Schools
With schools like Hinds relying more and more on solar power, keeping panels clean is a smart investment. Not only does it help reduce energy costs, but it also aligns with sustainability goals and teaches students the importance of renewable energy maintenance.
